The name “Basses Vallées Angevines” is applied to vast floodplains located to the north and immediate south of Angers, crossed by three rivers – the Mayenne, the Sarthe, and the Loir, which come together to form the Maine before pouring into the Loire.
Many trails have been prepared along these rivers, and ramblers will be able to appreciate to the full these vast meadows that have been used as pastureland for centuries.
The Ile St Aubin: The Ile St Aubin lies at the heart of the Maine Basin. Just 5 minutes from the town centre, we can find an ages-old equilibrium. A favourite with Angevin ramblers, the island is now also used as farmland.
It is home to more than 500 head of cattle and hosts the bird protection league, the fishing federation and the Anjou bleaks association.
